ESFA Matraville Sports High Football Program

ESFA, in partnership with Matraville Sports High School is running a Talented Sports Program for footballers with first enrolments for Year 7 in 2012. We are now calling for formal expressions of interest in the program. We invite you to be part of a supportive, stimulating environment that promotes development on and off the sporting field.

The Talented Sports Program:

  • Provides an integrated curriculum which caters for the special needs of the talented footballer
  • Includes coaching at school
  • Football will have a teacher mentor/coordinator appointed, who provides the link between coaches, parents and the school
  • All students in the TSP will receive reports evaluating their progress in the program

Benefits of the Program

  • Excellent coaching from experienced accredited coaching staff
  • A minimum of two hours training per week which is integrated into the school timetable
  • Providing education in nutrition, fitness, injury prevention and basic sports science along with life skills such as time management, goal setting and motivation
  • Exposure to a high level of competition which can improve skill level and provide access to higher representation in football
  • Development of coaching and refereeing qualifications
  • Strength and conditioning program provided to assist with the physical development of TSP students
  • Exposure to Elite Sporting Organisations – through ESFA the program will have links to representative clubs, the University of NSW and Sydney FC

Technical Development

  • Former AIS Head Coach and ex-Socceroo Steve O’Connor has expressed interest in the program and has offered advice on the program
  • The program will provide an opportunity for players to develop their football in their school as well as through their representative commitments

Principal of Matraville Sports High School, David Hill, highlights the benefits of the program for talented young players’ sport and education:

“Matraville Sports High School looks forward to working with ESFA in providing an educational opportunity for talented soccer players to combine their education with their chosen sport in a supportive educational environment.”
