The Eastern UNSW Lions, the joint venture between UNSW FC and ESFA to enter the Football NSW Women’s Super League (WSL), saw tremendous success both on and off the park this season.
Despite being just the clubs’ debut season, the five ‘Lions’ teams performed extraordinarily, with the Reserve Grade team even collecting the Premiership and Championship double.
The Eastern UNSW Lions has successfully brought elite female football back to the Eastern Suburbs and will continue to push forward in its youth, to provide a pathway for representative girl’s and women’s football in the Eastern Suburbs.
In addition to the five teams, the Lions have established a diverse coaching team, led by Coaching Technical Director, Luke Andrews and a Management Committee to oversee high level operation of the Club.
The reception the Lions received was evident in the Eastern UNSW Lions Girl’s and Women’s Gala Day on Sunday 12 September. This day saw over 60 female teams compete in games of football and culminated with the Lions playing a friendly with Sydney FC Women.
The day was the biggest women’s football event ever seen in the Eastern Suburbs and ESFA would like to thank Jo-Anne Black and her team of ‘Pink Hats’ for their tremendous efforts to bring the event together.
