ESFA’s Metropolitan Representative Teams – known as ‘Metro’ colloquially – performed extremely well in 2010, with the U12s finishing mid-table in a tough league and the U11s winning the Grand Final.
The Metropolitan Representative League, run by FNSW, includes football associations across Sydney including Illawarra and Southern Districts for Boys Under 11 and Under 12 age groups. The two age groups have just a single division, making the competition very competitive between associations.
This season’s Metro teams have been led by George Phillips, as Metro Convenor, in the capacity of a voluntary role. He has organised all aspects of the ESFA Metro’s in 2010 and acted as the regular correspondence to the coaching staff. The coaching staff have extensive involvement in the development of Junior football at ESFA, with the 2010 team was comprised of Simon Preston (U12 Coach), Brennan Sharpley (U12 Assistant), Ross O’Sullivan (U11 Coach). Combined they hold a diverse span of knowledge in Junior football and the success of the Metro teams has been an attribution of their commitment and approach to the players.
ESFA extends its recognition to Michael Swibel and Joseph Hayek as voluntary team managers for the U11s and U12s respectively.
The 2011 Metro Trials were recently conducted by ESFA Technical Director, Luke Andrews.
